‘Trim your hair and it would grow faster'...umm

…sorry to shatter your hopes and dreams, but trimming your hair doesn't make it grow. I know, I was sad too.

There’s a belief, especially among girls, that by cutting or trimming you hair, it would grow much faster. So, I went ahead to look for the science behind this and after going through a text book titled ‘The Biology of Hair Growth’, there it was staring at me, the fact that “…clipping and shaving have no effect on growth”. Sigh!.

Another argument is
if hair grows from the scalp or from the tip of the strand. Well, now that we know that you can cut it and nothing would happen, it’s clear that it grows from the roots, below the scalp. In fact, when it pops out of your head, it dies! (Can this post get any more sad?).

To the happy information, trimming makes hair look neater and it prevents breakage. Your diet also does affect hair growth and like everything else in our body, your hair needs water and nutrients. Let’s just say it is the roots that actually need the nutrients! So drink water and allow you hair air-dry after washing because water-loving molecules get into the skin more easily through hair follicles. And if after using all the treatment and products, your hair isn’t growing as you’d like, please cheer up because it’s just your genes and how they have chosen to work.
