‘Trim your hair and it would grow faster'...umm

Image
…sorry to shatter your hopes and dreams, but trimming your hair doesn't make it grow. I know, I was sad too. There’s a belief, especially among girls, that by cutting or trimming you hair, it would grow much faster. So, I went ahead to look for the science behind this and after going through a text book titled ‘ The Biology of Hair Growth ’, there it was staring at me, the fact that “…clipping and shaving have no effect on growth”. Sigh!. Another argument is if hair grows from the scalp or from the tip of the strand. Well, now that we know that you can cut it and nothing would happen, it’s clear that it grows from the roots, below the scalp. In fact, when it pops out of your head, it dies! (Can this post get any more sad?).                                           To the happy information, trimming makes hair look neater and it prevents breakage. Your diet also does affect hair growth and like everything else in our body, your hair needs water and nutrients. Le

Are they hoverboards or firecrackers???

Image
You know what a hoverboard is, right? Those segway lookalikes without handles? Well, some techy guys can’t get over the fact that they are called ‘hoverboards’ because they do not actually hover a.k.a suspend a.k.a don’t-touch-the-ground-at-all? But hey, some of us want to be in our own Back to the Future movie. Let’s cut right to it! These cool  hoverboards  have since become a thing of concern because they can spontaneously combust! Yeah, like actually cause a fire hazard.

An ugly banana a day might just keep cancer away

Image
Ever seen one of those really spotted bananas and gone ‘please, may I have the pretty, yellow, fresh ones instead?’ Yeah, me too! Ain’t nobody eating any ugly banana. But here’s why you might want to reconsider eating the spotted, ugly ones or bananas in general: Bananas generally are high in potassium and magnesium which really help to prevent high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. They also have antioxidant properties which ultimately help to prevent cell damage and keep us healthy! Are you still sitting down? Dab when you cough or sneeze

Image
Ever heard about the dance ‘Dab’? I know right? What is that? It is some dance that originated from Atlanta, US and has become quite popular around. I’m not going to bother too much about who the inventor is just because there’s still some confusion as to who has the copyrights but whoever it is, we would like to say a very big ‘thank you’ because people can now sneeze and cough with swag! Source: cdc.gov   The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a campaign in August 2015 suggesting a safer way to cough and sneeze. When we cough or sneeze,

About this blog and I

Image
HI! My name is Lucia Uju Ejoh and I would like to think that I am a health enthusiast. I am an Eagle because I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Covenant University, Nigeria and I am also an Aggie because I will be graduating from Texas A&M University very soon with a Master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety. Don’t worry, it’s nothing too deep. I would work to keep the environment and workplace relatively safe. Since my young adult life began, I have had my elder sister sometimes ask me questions like ‘what does it mean to have tuberculosis?’, ‘what do you think I should use for this cough?’, ‘what does this medical term mean?’ and I would gladly do some research on it and give her an answer. Sometimes, friends would tell me about certain habits and I would tell them the possible health implications of those habits. So this gave me the idea to start a blog th
